I don't think so. An older OTTD version there (without network support). It is a pity newer versions have dropped DOS.

DOSBox Rules! It is not very hard to manually create different configuration files to run your DOS apps. If you could edit autoexec.bat and config.sys in good old DOS days it is nothing. Actually most games run nicely without any edits. You will need to change settings for sound card and graphics card-find a suitable VESA extender (aka the one that works with your game) for some games that are a bit 'twisted'. Most games run fine with existing configuration files where you only need to edit to mount a drive C and possibly run a frontend like QuickMenu where you can create icons to click and run your apps/games, or DOSStart so you do not need to type in the command line.

That screenshot was taken on a physical machine running Franken DOix (A combination of various bits of various MSDOS versions, bits of FreeDOS and DOS ports of *nix utilities) as its OS. It was taken using a now ancient OpenTTD nightly built by one of the devs as a test to make sure that OpenTTD still built for DOS and in fact ran on MSDOS on real hardware. The reason there is no network support in OpenTTD on DOS is that there is no standard network API, not that OpenTTD had no network support at the time. I would love to try it again if someone would compile it for me (I don't know if the source as is can do it on linux/MinGW).

Since only FreeDOS is still kicking and also sure to work on modern machines we could forget about the rest. But alas with half a dozen derivatives/GUIs it is still a mess. Decisions have to be made. Does the API of FreeDOS suffice? Are there any issues? If it suffices then IMO we should start with pure FreeDOS as the target.

I still have my Wndows 3.10 install disks. All I need is a functional floppy drive to be able to use them.

From memory, the only bits of FreeDOS in use were the mouse and LFN drivers(well I had it's CD and USB drivers but they aren't needed for OpenTTD) the rest was a mix of MS DOS 4.x and up. I think 4.x would suffice if it was installed properly (not all my install disks worked completely).

Come on wally, when was the last time you visited your local recycle center?

Abandonware sites usually have all versions of DOS/old WINDOWS available. So you can download the corrupted diskette from there and replace.

Sounds interesting. Any sites with information about it?

Viz. compiling on FreeDOS: I tried once a while ago - the configuration script didn't recognize Allegro and Bash choked on some part of it involving awk shortly after that. I'm guessing it requires Bash 4.x, which I couldn't find compiled on the DJGPP website (newest version is 3.02).
