A first impression what NewStations 0.7 would bring to you.

Besides the usual updates/additions to the freight sector, it´ll implement "dummy tracks" (will also need DBrails), mainly to tackle the age-old "edge/island station" problem, see discussion here.

It´ll also implement working "longer depots" as stations (not just by adding "objects" to existing real train depots).

Being on it, any Swedish speakers around? Just in case, I´d need some translations:

"dummy tracks" -> ???
"connecting tracks" -> "anslutningsspåren"?
"drive-thru track" -> ???
"closed vans" -> "täckta vagnar"?
"open wagons" -> "öppna vagnar"?

regards
Michael

...and as usual it clearly states who's behind the graphics... :W

And I love that you've made the top of the oil cisterns the correct perspective, in opposite to some other work by others - but what else to expect Michael... :mrgreen:

Looking forward to the release...

I'll have a go:

"dummy tracks" -> I can't really of a good translation for this but the closest would probably be "dummyspår"
"connecting tracks" -> "anslutningsspår"
"drive-thru track" -> "genomfartsspår"
"closed vans" -> "täckta vagnar"
"open wagons" -> "öppna vagnar"

I'd probably translate "dummy tracks" to "blindspår"...

Looks really great .. I was experimenting doing a marshaling yard with dummy tracks and wagons like you done. I can now leave that idea to you.

Cheers

He, that´s interesting, since I was refering to this type of dummy track as "Blindgleise" in German.

Anyway, meanwhile I don´t think this would be the right term. As a "blind track" means something like a cul-de-sac (dead end).

How about "falsk spår" instead?

It´s an old idea. I already implemented it for NewStations back in 2006, but then Peter introduced "rail types" for OTTD, thus making implementation of "dummy tracks" complicated (to say the least) since you cannot access graphics from a foreign track set.

Only by releasing a graphically fitting track set together with a station set, this makes sense now, again.

Michael

That would definitely work. But no space between the words, we Swedes love to put words together to make up new words :)

Hmm, not to start an argument but I prefer Blindspår myself...

I no understand other language apart from English and Aussie .. but what if called the Fake Tracks .. would that make a difference with the language. Find the word FAKE in other language instead of Dummy.

Looking forward to when NewStations 0.7 is available.

Cheers

Hm, yeah.

ATM, terms for track are:

"dummy tracks" (US/UK)
"Pseudogleise" (D)
"vois faux" (F)
"vías falso" (E)
"unechte spoor" (NL)
"binari finti" (I)
"ślepy tor" (PL)
"falsk spår" (S)

For "sidings"/"marchalling yard":

"sidings" (US/UK)
"Abstellgleise" (D)
"vois de garage" (F)
"vías muerta" (E)
"Opstellspooren" (NL)
"Binari laterale" (I)
"Sporedni kolosijek" (HR)
"Sidospår" (S)

regards
Michael

"dummy" has a double entendre for which the more common definition refers to a person of low intelligence. "fake tracks" would be more appropriate, unless one attends school at Eton, in which case those dummies would probably use "falsified railroads".

I think 'mb' hit the nail on the head with "Sidings" as technically that what they are.

Nothing Fake about it and don't need to be a dummy to know that. :)

Cheers

For Dutch (NL) I would propose:
"dummy tracks" -> "nep spoor"
"sidings" -> "rangeersporen"

IMO, there´s a difference between "siding" (for shunting) and "storage siding" (for storing wagons). I.e., "Rangiergleis" vs "Abstellgleis" in German.

Likewise, "rangeersporen" vs "opstellspooren" in Dutch. My wordbook also gives "zijspoor".

W/r to the "dummy" term, I´ve already changed it to the more serious "fake" in the set. Thanks Wally. :D

Michael

You are indeed right, there is a difference:
"Rangeersporen" are used for shunting.
"Opstelsporen" (one L, one O, is the correct spelling in Dutch) are for storing wagons.
Well, at least with the correct spelling I contributed ;-)

Thanks for correcting my bad spelling. :D

Apropos, since we´re on Dutch here as well: how about "Rangeerterrein" for "switching yard"? And what for "drive-thru track"? For "connecting tracks" I have "Aansluitsporen" (also only one "o"?)?

regards
Michael

Correct

Yes, one O.
Do you mean with these tracks, tracks that connect fake rail with the actual railnetwork?
In that case "Aansluitende sporen" could also work.
Quote:
And what for "drive-thru track"?

Do you mean for example tracks in a station that dont have platforms next to them (so for non-stopping traffic)?
Then "Doorgaande sporen" could work.
