Our journey through Innovatia's region of Eastland continues, and we're approaching Sofia, the 2nd largest city in Innovatia. Below is an image of the western part of Sofia;

Continuing to grow Sofia is heading towards the small islands east of the city center, trying to make use of the few remaining un-occupied land areas in the region. But many others are looking at whatever available land there are, and Sofia Harbour needs to expand their business...

...and since it's weekend after all, why not also add the north part of Sofia, namely the international airport, SIA, before we continue to head to Eastlands northern parts...

From Eastland territory we jump to Westland, and in particular Innovatias 3rd largest city, Viborg, also the capitol of Westland county, located northwest of Vasa. There has always been a "fight" between Viborg and Sofia about reaching the position as the nations 2nd city, and while Viborg never stood a chance in the past, the National Statistics Bureau in Vasa predicts that Viborg will pass Sofia for the first time in history, and become the nations 2nd largest city...

And Viborg International, VIX, has just opened up for business... And while on the subject - to those of you that haven't thought of it - for the sake of realism I never place large airports in towns. Always outside, and this also makes up for some realistic airport shuttles running from the city center to the airport. I even have specific airport shuttle graphics for the purpose, normal, boggie, and articulated ones. And for all this to work I place a station tile in the middle of the city center, connected to the airport itself. :))

Viborg recently exceeded Sofia, (now renamed Vasa), as the 2nd largest city in Innovatia, and has attracted a new shopping center in the northeast. An IKEA store obviously... :mrgreen: And here's the aerial view;

Anyways, moving on in Innovatia we're heading towards the TT-region, (Three Towns Region), as it's generally referred to with three very close neighbours... Our first stop is Mariehamn, located north av the TT-regions major city, Fredrikshamn - which outskirts can be seen to the southeast. Fredrikshamn provides all three towns within the TT-region with local transports, but only Mariehamn is serviced by articulated buses due to the large industrial area, employing not only citizens in Mariehamn but from all three towns in the region...

Continuing with the TT-region we're now at the smallest town, Klintehamn, situated west of the TT-region capitol of Fredrikshamn. This is a peaceful little place, and the only thing disturbing the peace, (according to the inhabitants), would be the ships using the important canal to reach Hallsberg...

...and here we are at the capitol itself of the so called TT-region, Fredrikshamn - also the 4th largest city in Innovatia. Together with Mariehamn, Fredrikshamn has a large forest and farming industry, delivering to both Skogaholm and Uddeholms Industries in the southwest and southeast...

Closing up to the large capitol of Innovatia, formerly known as Vasa but now renamed Olympia, we still have a few minor towns to visit. Below is a view of Hallsberg, a small oil shipping harbour town in the north, east of Viborg. Currently the harbour is about to ship away some old city buses having done their life time duties in Sofia...

Thought I should make an update as far as cities in Innovatia concerns... Sort of like a Top 6 Towns of Innovatia if you like... The capitol, Olympia, is currently in the 3rd place, but should soon regain its rightful position as the number 1 city of Innovatia. It's due to some major construction phases in the east and west sectors causing the temporary drawback in number of citizens. I had to split Olympia Central in two large stations, (Olympia C and Olympia S) in order to handle all traffic properly - as different trains are running on different levels in Innovatia. The new Olympia S had to be constructed south of the government buildings in the south part of downtown.

In 1st place we find Vasa, yes there have been some name changes as former Vasa the capitol is now known as Olympia, and Vasa is the former Viborg - and former Sofia is now Viborg - the 2nd top 6 city. A bit complicated, I know... :tongue:

Been working a bit on the capitol of Innovatia, the city of Olympia. It's quite large at this point and is probably 4 times larger than any other city on this map. The infrastructure itself is rather complex as the city is built on a mountainious area, and - as being the capitol itself - lots of highways and railroads are connecting in Olympia. There's also a metro system running with two lines from the Olympia International Airport in the south to the northern parts of the city. Two main stations, Olympia C and Olympia S provides intercity access everywhere around Innovatia, and a new intercity bus system is planned to be built up using two or three Bus Terminus cose to the downtown area.

Olympia has a lot to offer, and accordingly attracts lots of tourists all year round, visiting the Castle of Olympen north of Olympia C, (where it all started making the city what it is today), Ekerö Castle in the west, the Government Placa, and more...

An overview of the capitol city, formerly known as Vasa, now named Olympia. The first image, posted as a christmas contest some year ago, shows the city in its glory at that time, and the second one shows its current state. As can tell it's at least three times bigger and about 45000 people lives there. Normally it would probably be a lot more, but since large areas are used by company facilities and decorative objects, the number of residents are somewhat reduced.

The surrounding area as well as the landscape itself has changed a lot. The international airport had to be relocated to the opposite side, allowing for the new Green Cargo facility to be built, (handling goods and goods traffic for the entire nation), and the move of highways and railroad lines, (to make better use of expensive land tiles), along with a second main railway station in south downtown, has influensed city planning overall.

I'm also testing out a new form of public transport in Olympia, seeing as the city is quite large, by adding a number of trunk bus lines along with the ordinary bus routes. For this purpose I'm using a total of 16 new buses colored a bit differently than the other light green city buses running, for visual effects, to serve these trunk lines. Further more, giving each bus running on a specific route some differences at the near end of the lines, I can better control the flow of buses, making it look and work a bit more realistic since we don't have access to a time table setting.

More to come...

The Eiffel Tower is originally a 3D model found online. I basically reduced its size and made some adjustments to better fit the TTDLX-environment. The base however is mine...

But it looks good... :))

Finally, spending some pages pack presenting the towns and cities located in Innovatia, I thought it was time to also get to the capitol itself - Olympia. Due to its size, almost three times the size of the 2nd largest city in Innovatia, I'm forced to use several posts to present the images showcasing the city. So, here goes;

Olympia International. The airport has recently been moved from the northern part of Olympia to its new southern location. While the larger runways are restricted to international flights, the smaller one is for domestic routes. The yellow buses running to and from the airport, are especially designed as airport shuttles, and can be found also in other towns and cities in Innovatia - although the articulated ones only runs in Olympia.

Olympia Central. Increased traffic forced the local authorities to construct a second main station located in south downtown. In order to avoid a railway station taking up too much space, most part of the station is located underground. There's also a system that separates trains from each others, by using different levels depending on the type of traffic....

The capitol of Innovatia, Olympia, is experiencing lots of developments as many new corporate headquarters are establishing in the city. It's a struggle to make room for new structures, especially in the downtown area, so the city council is looking into some more unconventional ideas to allow Olympia to expand. And as the city grows larger, so does the amount of tourists, demanding more and more to see and to do... This city needs more and above all larger hotels... :mrgreen:

The "London Eye", one of the number of different structures Raven sent me a couple of years ago to be converted for use in TTDLX. All his stuff were originally made for use with Simutrans, and while I started to work on some of his buildings - only a few made it into my game - this ferris wheel being the last one. See image below... :))

Thought I should post a statistics update each month - since I'm constantly active all around Innovatia, changing, digging, landscaping, and whatnot - for those possibly interested. These posts will consist of a cities "Top 6" along with an overview of the largest city, (due to most activities concentrated to that particular area -all of it additional to the "PostCards" currently posted each week as well...

The end of Olympia

Late 2006 the work on what was to become the land of Innovatia started. Long before the era of New Objects or even new graphics to replace trees and other significant stuff both here and there. Innovatia initially consisted of 13 towns with the city of Vasa, (later on renamed Olympia), being the capitol and the central city of everything, a number that in the end decreased to only 6. Reason be the rapid growth of the capitol city, whilst also being the reason for the end of Innovatia. A quick look at the map attached below shows Olympia and it's growth occupying a vast majority of the entire map, leaving little or very few options to continue to surprise with all its glory. And as such, during the years the entire city has become a very complex - and by all means complicated - system of infrastructure with motorways, local streets, metro system, local buses along with a trunk bus system and several railroad stations serving an ever so growing city in all possible directions. Much to fit in but very little space available which in the end resulted in lots of tunnels and bridge works, creating a difficult scene to superwise and keep up with. And now the time has come to end the era.

Innovatia was designed to allow for one public service provider without the interference of an AI. All in all 122 trains, (37 of them for passenger services, also including 9 metro trains for public transports in Olympia), provided sufficient transportations of both passengers and goods throughout the entire land of Innovatia. 227 vehicles occupied the roads, most of them in Olympia, (while trams only existed in the 2nd largest city, Uleå, to the south-east corner), along with 20 aircrafts and 41 ships.

Transporting goods in Innovatia became a huge issue itself during the years as many trains needed space to work as sufficiently as possible. The solution was "Siesta Tracks" where trains - either upon departure or arrival - entered a more or less hidden "parking" next to the actual station areas where raw material and goods were handled. And once space allowed for a new train to enter the station area, a train could leave the "Siesta Track" and continue the production line as planned. In the beginning three specific stations, (Green Cargo Facilities), were created in Olympia, Uleå and Vasa delivering food, goods and petrol to the end consumers troughout Innovatia. However, due to cost efficency requirements, all three of them were merged and one large Green Cargo Facility opened up in Olympia for further transportation with trucks to the end consumers.

In Olympia a different system of delivering food, goods and petrol was developed where three large shopping centres had five loading bays attached to them. This created the illusion of food, goods and petrol being delivered to business providers in the city, while in fact each loading bay was connected to a larger passenger stop close to the location of the shopping centre itself. For this purpose most metro stations in Olympia had their catchement areas increased and five stops, in total 15, made sure that the merchandises reached most of the end consumers in such a large city as Olympia became in the end. And to further make the illusion even more realistic only smaller trucks delivered the goods to the shopping centres, while larger trailers were assigned on longer routes to other towns in Innovatia.

Olympia was one of two cities providing an effecient metro system reaching most dense parts of the city, with two central main stations built next to Olympias two railroad stations, Olympia Central and Olympia South. 9 metro trains continuosly serviced 9 metro stations from the international airport, OEX, in the south-west outskirts to Green Cargo Olympia in the northern outskirts. Further more about 50 buses, most of them articulated, green colored, ran on 12 different routes throughout the entire city, a system that in the end was extended when trunk buses, (blue colored), started their services, focusing on feeding passengers to Olympias metro stations.

Uleå had the 2nd system of Metro in Innovatia, although not even close in size to Olympias. But a sufficient system of city buses, (yellow colored), ensured that public transports were just as good as anywhere else. On top of that Uleå had the only trams in Innovatia, with 5 trams running on a single line. Uleå as a city was re-designed at the end with the goal to create a mediterranean city with sand beaches, hotels and palm trees.

Vasa, Innovatias 3rd largest city located north-west of Olympia only had city buses, (red colored), providing its citizens with public transports, but local trains gave direct access to services in the neighboring towns of Waxholm, Mariehamn and Fredrikshamn to the north-east. While Waxholm due to its size never provided local buses, Mariehamn as a result of being a twin city to its larger neighbor in the south, Fredrikshamn, could take advantage of city buses running in that town, (blue colored).

Apart from local buses a system of airport shuttles was offered as a result of airports being built in the outskirts. Olympia, obviously, offered the best service with several articulated yellow/green/red striped buses running from the downtown area to OEX, 24/7 all year round. In Waxholm and Fredrikshamn normal length airport shuttle buses from the same company, the only private business in Innovatia, held up services, while Uleå was the only city with tandem axled buses providing daily services between Uleå Centralstation and UEX.

And with this the creation of a new Innovatia is about to start, with the goal to develop a capitol that's only half the size of its current version, allowing for - hopefully - much more innovative solutions with even more surprises than before. A larger version of the current map of Innovatia is attached below, and more close-up images will be presented at Simuscape. As can be seen in Olympia large areas are still being developed for office structures and other business facilities, whilst an even huger part of Uleå is subject to development - this due to the purpose of creating a mediterranean city. A work that will continue with the new map of Innovatia.

Feel free to comment on this thread! :W

Yeah, it is, isn't it? :mrgreen: It's almost kind of unique as I have yet to find another player sticking to one and the same map for almost 6 years...

Well, glad you enjoyed it! :)

Really cool to see all the progress of the Innovatia world since 2006. I hadn't realised it was that long ago already. I started playing the map a couple of times as well, but could never get the same amount of awesomeness in it that you had, even before you started making your own .grfs.

Nice to see you progress to a new map though, will be interesting to see what you will come up with next.
