Many artists use PSP (Paint Shop Pro). Obsolete by now but fine for the work we are doing. Avoid versions above 6-they are not so pixel art friendly. I won't offer a link of a hacked binary, just Google. Caution for 32bpp: PSP 6 doesn't support png with transparency. So you will have to save in another format that supports transparency and convert with another program like Photoshop or Gimp.

A lot!
IrfanView? Yes that's in my quick launch. But other 2 may prove helpful for the minor tweaks of the last moment.

would making 3d models and applying the textures to them instead of trying to paint on to it in PSP or PS or the man in the leather mask GIMP, if you making trains like above. think that would be easier to do?

3d models are giving better results for extra zooms and 32bpp. If you can master a 3d drawing program you will do miracles! For 8bpp and standard zoom AFTER the textures and the rendering you may need to fine touch in 2d (PSP, GIMP...).

FWIW, if I'm not porting existing isometric sprites to work with OTTD, I'm using 3D models from Google Warehouse and Sketchup to render the images (there's even an OTTD plugin, I can dig up the link if anyone wants).

I was wondering about this but I don't know if we'd have the right to use them. If we could making city objects would be easy and fast cos they are all done. Can you get a plug in for wings 3d. It's a very easy 3d programme to use its complicated like blender or Maya
