Biggest tragedy from fires in Greece ever.
77 confirmed dead, many more missing.

Fate played a very bad game for 26 of them. Just a few meters from the sea and the fire came upon them. People left their cars and run to the sea. A few seconds separated life from death. A few didn't even manage to leave their cars. Other died on the road. The tragedy was that quite a number of them perished in a private property next to the cliffs. They didn't manage to get to the steps leading down the cliffs to the sea. Prior, as the fire was fast approaching, the owner had opened his gates to lead another group of people to the sea. Probably some of the ones who perished couldn't find the gate to the steps due to the heavy smoke or suffocated from it. Others were found inside and around the house. The fire overtook them. A girl jumped from the cliffs and died on the spot (two more members of her family perished.)
Getting to the sea didn't mean survival either. The air was so heavy and the heat wave was unbearable. People had to get into the sea and swim. Then many were taken away by currents. Most were rescued many hours later a couple of kilometers away. A few didn't make it and some are still missing.

Once I have seen a fire while driving the car and it goes so quickly that you cannot do anything. The area didn't have trees, just agriculture and bare land and on a piece of flat land there were tall pine (?) trees. The dry wild grass under the pine trees got burned while the trees remained unaffected. It was like a small wave going under the trees. Then it was windy but not so strong at the spot.
Now we had strong winds, alert was issued prior to the fire, and still so many people died and properties lost... :?:
Arson cannot be excluded. There was breaking a new fire every 1 hour on average. Three of these fires broke near to each other and were close to the rails. This is very suspicious.
