Edit : I read a bit on the topic, and the theory of subsurface ocean seems very plausible. It will explain the vaporising elements. Altough it's very interesting what kind of a activity might planet like Ceres have...

It is amazing how complex is or solar system. See the update on Pluto. Also if you have time drop to Nasa's webpage and read about Io. Nice animation there! (Don't ask details. I won't spoil the surprise. ;-) ) What we know is not even the tip of the iceberg!

Well, I can almost clearly see an automated probes to other solar systems in my lifetime, so it's not that bad.
And something must remain for Sci-Fi, after all. :)

Maybe not on mine. They may focus on Mars and delay that. And it needs some decades to reach another system. But if we construct an EM Drive that we can use everything is possible within a few years from now!
