Glad you got lots to do too.
I should stay on one subject and finish them, but keep moving around back and forwards to other work. At least swapping and changing helps to motivate things as it not all the same all day.
Projects I working on is the Canyon Walls, flowing creeks, creeks with rapids, Locomotive turntable and sheds, and still have some fake railway lines and buildings to add to the AuzFakeRailwayLines sets.
Think I might ask for a pay rise and paid double for any overtime I do.
Cheers pal

Yes, yes, yes as little George uses to say. [He seems to understand the concept of zero even though he has not learned about multiplying yet.]

Hello Wally,
Hope all is well, as we been out of touch lately.
Are you still interested in continuing with the bridges?
Got side tracked since beginning of the year with fixing some projects and playing around with new ideas and now Quast65 teaching me stations and platforms.
Hope to continue bridges soon.
Been going on some train journeys of a day looking at infrastructure, stations, trains and bridges. The wooden bridges I knew of many moons ago all been upgraded to concrete pylons and steel beams. Didn't see any of the old wooden ones.
Cheers pal
Garry

Hi Garry,
All is well and I'm still above ground. I've been looking in on the station classroom every now and then to make sure you're behaving yourself and doing your homework.
I suggest waiting for your stations to be done before returning to bridges.
Wally

Good to hear from you. I always behave myself .. when I asleep. Not sure how long stations will take as never expected it to get as large as it has. Only thought maybe 1 or 2 sets to it would be all, but growing to 6 sets, and still learning. Cheers pal

Been playing around with bridges again. Used codes and graphics from American Bridges sets to practice with. Made these 3 bridges so far. Attachment:

My pride is the Wooden Trestle bridge. Attachment:

The coding in American Bridges does not show how to add a image of the bridge to the "Select Rail Bridge" in the games menu. But hope to figure that out eventually. If like to try here the file. Source also included.

You need to go to the sprite sheet for ogfx1_base.grf which should show you the sprite numbers for each icon. Then you can use a simple Action A to replace them. There is a problem though. The recolor bridges share their icons with their parents. There are six recolored bridges. The list is here. Only New Map Features supports replacing the recolored icons.

Thanks Wally, I'll have some sleep and dream of what to do. See if I can figure that out in coming days. Cheers

Had a look at links you gave me .. got a bit confused as normal when I first read through things. Will continue to read it and see if can get it to sink in. Main thing I get my bridges made and coded first. Had a go doing the rail bridge over the roads at East Maitland. Attachment:

And made this from that photo. Attachment:

Putting into practice what you taught me wally. I redesigned the girders to match those in this country. This is the bridge at Paterson just after it was built over 100 years ago. Shows the girders a lot clearer than many photos I seen. Attachment:

And these the results using that photo as my guide. Attachment:
Steel-Truss Road Bridges.png [ 55.9 KiB | Viewed 7098 times ]

Still haven't did the menu images .. hope to try working on those when finished all the bridges. Cheers

Hi Garry, Those are looking really, really good. Funny thing about those truss bridges, they're used pretty much all over the world, for both road and rail. Too bad the game doesn't allow for weight restrictions. Can you imagine a game where your train has to back off because it's too heavy for the bridge? It'll be a while before I can get back to my bridge tutorial. Sorry about that, but you seem to have the hang of it.

Have it so in the beginning only the wooden bridges available and when heavier trains start operating have to replace all the bridges with bridges that can carry the weight. See the bridges have speed limits, so I will make sure these are set to suit the bridges. Cheers

Made a few improvements on the wooden trestle bridge. Attachment:
Wooden Trestle Bridge2.png [ 59.1 KiB | Viewed 7075 times ]
Just the slopes a minor problem as cross beans still out a bit. Also having a problem with the road bridges .. the pylons on steep slopes don't align properly. Found this to be the case with American Bridges too so something for me to work on eventually. Intend to make several wooden bridge types with the section crossing the river (the odd piece) be iron plating or some other metal design. Also looking at idea make a few culvert type bridges similar to the object ones I made some time ago. Don't think I need to restrict the length of any bridges I make. Cheers all

Made some changes to the wooden bridges to experiment to allow roads and boats to pass under them if players wish and still have the nice looks. When length is a odd number will have the gap to allow passage of vehicles and ships and even number no gaps. By doing this was able to put the pillars closer together make them look that much better. Doing this also get 2 bridge designs from the one bridge. Attachment:
Wooden Bridges-3.png [ 80.68 KiB | Viewed 7058 times ]
Thinking about doing this to some other bridges as well. Cheers
