Here is a set of wide bridges.

I made the road bridges so they will line up with the Dutch Road Furniture Motor Ways

The edges also look like footpaths too.
They have concrete abutments and pillars.
Roads are the default roads that come with the game.

The rail bridge has sandstone abutments and pillars and wooden access path ways for maintenance workers.

Like to try make at least one more wide bridge for railway lines, but it finding one suitable.

If you see any errors or have an improvement idea let me know.

Went train travelling today to get away from computer. Visited several railway stations and got lots video clips and photos of freight trains, bridges and other things of interest.

Something I notice on many road bridges here there are these black and white warning signs at ends of bridges.
This wooden road bridge is at Awaba.

The wooden planks on this bridge has mixture of new brownish timbers and many weathered grey. Approach to the bridge has those black and white signs and looks like new reflectorize yellow ends too. For the novelty hope to do something similar on my road bridges too.

This you might like to use with your water set Wally.

These are old bridge pylons at a place called Cockle Creek .. Hope to also make some for the water object sets I have.

This one at Dora Creek with a XPT train going across it has a few interesting things.

The pillars are only one carriage width a part .. if we did some with our bridges have a pillar in the middle of tile how would it effect road vehicles and boats? Vehicle not run into it but wonder if it can be placed so vehicle will go either side of it without any glitch. .. Boats normally travel down the middle so they will hit it and might sink.

Can also see the yellow balls on the electrical wires above the water. The white signs you can see on river bank warns boat owners the wires are only 4 metres above the water. But there is no signs telling how high the bridge is.

See if I can make some of those signs to go with the electric wires I have in object sets that cross over the water.

Hope tomorrow work on more of my bridges.

Cheers

Best I can suggest is to load my bridges and then open the objects menu. I have causeways and trestles as objects. Ships and RVs won't go through objects.

I looked at your bridges when first seen them on line but never looked at the objects

Come to think of it .. you told me about doing objects under bridges many moons ago and I forgot about. :sorry:

I dare say your objects are coded in NFO which I don't know how do that yet. Any chance you can PM me the code and graphics to just one of your objects and I see if I can learn something from that and make some too.

Cheers pal

Actually, you can use any method you want ... NFO, NML or m4nfo. The objects are very simple. They don't do anything special. The tricky part is the drawing. Size matters. Not more than 8 pixels high for each bridge level. Length is one span. Do some test blocks to make sure the height doesn't show through the floor of the bridge.

All the methods should let you set four properties that you will need to use:
- Allow build on water
- Draw water under the object
- Allow bridges over objects
- Minimum bridge height (1 for 8px; 2 for 16px; etc.)

I could do them in NML as separate file and maybe add to my water object set or a separate bridge object set.

With the pylons as objects could almost remove the pylons from the bridge sets and just use the objects, but there be some players who will not like that idea.

Never tried to use m4nfo .. some say it easier then the NFO I using at moment.

Something I might have a look at later on.

Maybe I should stop going on train rides and visiting stations so I not keep getting ideas.

Cheers

That's the way I did it. After I had the object code behaving as expected I simply appended it to the bottom of my bridge GRF.

Don't worry about the pylons. The objects should cover them. You'll need to test to make sure of this.

Don't do that. Your ideas are the secret of your success. 8-)

Here's a test you can do.
Load your bridges after my bridges. my objects will still be available for you to test with your bridges.

How you do that :?:

Hardest part with the ideas is find chance to do them. Got several projects in work at moment and not completed.

Computers are suppose to be multitasking .. can have lots of programs open on my 2 x 27" monitors .. but dammed if I can figure out how to make it do graphics and coding at same time while I doing something else. :cucko:

NFO is written in a plain text editor, so it's just copy and paste. You'd have to check with a NML guru to see how it's done there.

Look the computer in the camera and say please.

What happened? Where the road markers drunk? The double line after the bridge should actually bend to the left. :fuck: them and give them the sack!
At least you can correct the double line when you draw it. ;)
Let me see how you will draw the planks.

And as wallyweb said please don't stop taking photos!

Here the bridge from another angle showing while it has a bend.

They not only bent the white lines but also the road. As a old saying .. Things are pretty straight with out a twist.

I hope to change the brownish planks on the wooded road bridge to look a bit more like in pic. Not sure if a few new planks would look any good.

I added a few signs to the road bridges and this the result.

Rail bridges also got signs warning people that trains cross here. Maybe the signs are there to warn blind people as they not able to see a train coming.

Here the game file if like to try.

Having a try making culverts using the idea I had with the object ones I did some time ago.

These also given me a idea with the abutments. Looking at both road and rail bridges there not that many that has the brick and concrete boxed look from the top of the slop to the bottom like we have in our games.

Most have pile of dirt and a retaining wall. So I looking at this idea with mine bridges.

I did these road culverts with the pile of gravel and retaining wall look.
Attachment:
Road Culverts.png
Road Culverts.png [ 75.06 KiB | Viewed 6727 times ]

The level abutments I've used safety railing and the ramp abutments I used white guide posts as not sure what look better at moment.

Hope to make another road culvert using concrete or drain pipes.

When get the roads how I want will make some rail ones.

Once I get these dirt piles and retaining walls looking good hope to do this to all the other bridges.

Suggestions welcomed.

Cheers

How think this would do as a bridge?

It actually a culvert and not meant for RV and boats to go under it.

Will make it so can be used at a higher level.

Been a bit slow lately as the workers took a few days off

If those pillars are done as objects then ships and RV's and dingos and bounders will never pass under it.

Why not? From others that have tried without knowing (they puked when they found out  ) I heard that they taste nice (like fish and chicken).
