Hello Sac and others also... :W

Yes I'm still around TTD... more or less backstage, but still running the game too to play a bit.
As some of You may know, lately I have been drawing a lot station tiles (if someone want I can show them here in the correct sub-forum later on), but my main vocation is locomotives and my heart always belongs to them.

I always actually have preferred original scale/size, but lately have look into (never played) the so called "Larger locomotives and wagons" They actually don't look that bad when You find the right scale to go with (as Your 28px long locomotive, IMO its the longest we can/could go, over that, its too much). Now when I have read threw this topic and have seen some of Your locomotives (may I also say they look stunning) I just cant see anywhere how they perform in the curves, when the game is running? All the shots I have seen is on the straight stretch of track and it wont give the overview. Is there the same amount (8) of sprites for a standard locomotive and a carriage? Must there be some extra sprites for the turns/curves? As You Sac said some point, its now possible to have larger locomotives!? Do I really slept something off far behind and now later on trying to fine a answer :?

Anyways I could have an answer because I very much like to try that drawing style out myself :oops:

Regards,
Siim a.ka ISA

Hello there ISA - and nice to see you again! :)

My coder has made a test version, (with my previous sprites before some minor changes), and they work very well in curves. And it's the same amount of sprites as always! I've only adapted my sprites to the new length possible, and it's really only a matter of adding some extra pixels in between the front and the back of an engine/coach/freight car...

I've attached the template, but depending on the specific item in question I don't follow this scheme to the spot, but allow myself to make some further adjustments if necessary - which you can tell by my sprites posted so far...

Looking forward to see some of your work - and by all means, keep posting them here at Simuscape as well... :)

Added the improved RC2 from former ÖBB, now part of Infranord's fleet as ELL. Also added one of the RC3 engines part of Hector Rail's fleet. According to information available these engines are undergoing maintenance and will recieve Hector Rails livery. Exactly how they will look like once finished is somewhat difficult to tell, but if not similar to my own version I may have to update this one;

...and hopefully not only RC-engines... albeit they are in a majority on Swedish railroads... :P

Okey, so having a bit of decision anxiety, trying to determine which "bluish" look to go with... The lighter or the darker... I'm leaning towards the darker as it gives that "unclean" feeling, but I'm not entirely sure...

Any thoughts?

Hmm.. thick question, and my favorite locomotive! :) Both looks good the darker one has that unclean look as you say, but I like the contrast between the blue and the black on it. However mabye its to bright blue?
So I would say the darker one.

Just my thoughts

If we could have a different background we could discern which looks better much more easier.

Absolutely, the appropriate background is essential for a superb final result... :P And here are both views with the darker and the brighter version;

Meanwhile I also decided to give the T46 a facelift as you can tell below. The first version, (and a tad bit too long as well), on top, with the new version below;

While looking at the Dm3 I figured none of the versions are good. In fact, I think they need to be even brighter as shown below;

The new even brighter looks really good when you show it actual gameplay! Hard to tell on that blue background.

Good job.

Yes, without a doubt the brighter bluish is the one that works best... :)

And speaking of Dm3's, had no idea also NSB had their own version of the Dm2 for the same purpose, namely to haul iron ore from Kiruna to Narvik - (or Luleå)! Not sure if there are any norwegian members around, but just for the fun of it I gave the Dm2 also the NSB livery... :P

Since NSB will be represented in this set with their BM73b, perhaps I should add also the El12?

Also showing how NSB connected three units, (as they didn't have the middle part that made up for an entire Dm3);

I knew about the EL 12, it was used to haul iron ore Kiruna-Narvik starting in the early 60's (and even in the early 90's wikipedia tells me :) ) but I never knew they coupled more then two together.

Anyways, I don't see any reason not to add the EL 12 since you already drew it and it looks good

SJ also used the RM (always coupled 3 together) to complement the DM3, it's just a modifed RC-Engine ("nedväxlad", ballasted, smaller wheels, different brake system) to achieve higher pulling force. All RM's where sold to Green Cargo and I think they where used just recently to haul Northlands Iron Ore trains to Narvik (before they got bankrupt), but i'm not sure about that.

I really don't think the RM is needed in the set (but it's easy to just copy an RC and make it slower and stronger if you want it in the set)

I'll think about the El12 a bit more while I complete the MTAB fleet... :) As for the Rm-engine, I don't think it'll add anything interesting as it's basically an Rc-engine, although with some changes, but still... And I think available vehicle ID's can come to better use... :)

Yeah, the overall progress speeds up when I have some days off from work - and it'll get even better as we're approaching christmas, a time of the year when I take at least a whole month off from work... :P

Anyway, looking forward to whatever you may come up with, ISA!

Also, as progress continues with INFRA Trains I'm looking for a few people interested in testing out the set whenever my excellent coder has completed test versions of it! Interested, post a note here! :)

With this said, here's another of LKAB's rolling stock, a completely redrawn T46;
