Canadian Theme Pack - Infrastructure Graphics [Discussion]

Description :
The Canadian Infrastructure Graphics module includes everything infrastructure. It has absolutely no use on its own as it has been tailored for use with the Canadian Theme Pack; for starters at least one module of Canadian Trains / Railways (CanRail) or Stations (CanStn) has to be activated too. This module handles all player parameters too; further, it includes a management system for all other modules. Consider this to be the Master GRF.

Credits :
Graphics by various artists from Simuscape and TT-Forum, in particular Oz, lifeblood, SAC, George, Ben_K, Cornelius, Skidd13, norfolksouthern37, Oracle and OzTrans. For details see individual features. All Coding and User Guide by OzTrans.

Faetures :
The following features have already been completed, implemented and will be available with the initial release of the Canadian Theme Pack :

»» Foreign language support for English, French and German. It is automatic, but if the game does not recognise these languages automatically, then players have the option to force any of these languages via parameter setting; it only applies to the Canadian modules though. Automatic recognition works in OpenTTD, but in TTDPatch, players need to use the English, French or German executable for automatic language selection to work.


»» Canadian Town Names (CANames v1.2 by wallyweb) - this graphics file (GRF) has been fully integrated in CanBase and being part of the Canadian Theme Pack will always be available. This is particularly useful when playing a scenario, that was created with one of the town name options enabled.

»» Canadian Font [* * * NEW * * *] - Fully revised 256 latin character ASCII Font; normal font is one pixel less high and wide, plus a new large font, the small one has been left untouched. The main reason for including a revised font is to maximise text in sometimes limited available space. All latin characters have been revised except for control codes and symbols, like 'train', 'ship', 'aircraft' etc. This feature simply replaces the character set in the Base Graphics file (tgr1r.grf or OpenGFX). Graphics by OzTrans.

»» Trees - A full set of temperate and arctic trees, including snowy variants (fully snow aware). They come courtesy of SAC and George and are commonly known as 'borrowed' trees. Again, this feature simply replaces the trees in the Base Graphics file (tgr1r.grf or OpenGFX). Graphics by SAC with snowy variants by George.

Note: Temperate snowy trees not available in OpenTTD, as OpenTTD does not have snow in a temperate game.

» Two Era Road System (NARoads v1.1) - The ones of you, who know NARoads, well that's what it is. Everything required for the Canadian Theme Pack contained in NARoads v1.1 (except the trams/streetcars, they have been moved to CanRV) has been integrated in CanBase. There's nothing new and the three choices are still there, i.e. :

. 0 - [default], time based, 'dirt/brick' until 1945, then 'bitumen' 1946+
. 1 - 'dirt/brick' roads throughout a game
. 2 - 'bitumen' roads throughout a game

Included, too, are City Street Lights, One Way Road Arrows, Roadworks/Bulldozers, Drive-Through Bus and Truck Stops as well as icons and cursors and a comprehensive Tram Track System including stops and depots. Then there are rail/road crossings for normal and narrow gauge rail. Bridges will be part of the Bridges section (to be presented later). Graphics by Oz, lifeblodd and OzTrans.

»» Choice of rail fences (as already available in CanStn v1.1, with some changes). The fences have been moved from CanStn to CanBase. They apply to rail tracks (including basic buffers, terrain stations [aka rail yards] and waypoints [except option 5]) as well as off-road tramway tracks. Graphics by lifeblood and OzTrans.

Available fences options are :

0 - [default], defaults to fence option 2 (Canadian).
1 - none.
2 - Canadian (same as station platform fences).
3 - Canadian (same as option 2 but with company coloured fence posts).
4 - Hedges (in temperate) Stone Walls (in arctic) [option not available in sub-tropical].
5 - TTD 'original'; i.e. the ones present in [O]TTD Base Graphics GRF.

Note : Option 5 [TTD 'original'] isn't a viable option for the Canadian Theme Pack any more, but has been retained for players that do wish to use them. However, they will not be displayed with basic buffers, terrain stations and waypoints. Players can use option 3 [Canadian] to get company coloured fences instead.

Also, OpenTTD does not have fenced off-road tramway tracks, therefore there are no fences with off-road tramway tracks.

»» TTD 'original' Graphics Update [* * * NEW * * *] – There are some graphics in the Base Graphics set (trg1r or OpenGfx) that will be updated by this module. They are 'eye-candy' only (currently) :

1. Lighthouse (by lifeblood)
2. Transmission Tower (by OzTrans)

These features will also be available as objects, so that they can be placed during a game.

Note: Therre are of course other graphics too, either already presented (like trees, road system etc), or will be presented later on.


»» Company Headquarters Graphics Update – They too are graphics in the Base Graphics set (trg1r or OpenGfx) that will be updated by this module. And will also be available as objects, so that they can be placed during a game. The company HQs have been ported from NARoads v1.1 with a matching set for the 1st generation (brick) road system added. Graphics by Skidd13 with updates by OzTrans.
